
Earlier this year, while travelling through Southeast Asia, I spent some time with Doctors Without Borders and visited the Thai-Burma border to learn more about the ongoing civil war in Myanmar. While there, I met with staff at Mae Tao Clinic, a humanitarian organisation that’s been providing medical care and education to displaced Burmese people for decades.
The story looks at the challenges they’re currently facing, limited funding, cross-border instability, and a growing number of patients fleeing conflict zones. I spoke with doctors and volunteers about how they operate under these conditions, what’s changed since the military coup, and what it means to keep a clinic running just outside a war zone.
